There are a few different paths to becoming a member at KMC:

  • Confirmation Class – Typically around age 12, children are invited to participate in a Confirmation Class where they learn about faith, Moravian tradition, and what it means to be part of the church.
  • Transfer of Membership – If you’re already a member of another church, we’d be happy to welcome you through a simple transfer process.
  • First-Time Membership – If you haven’t been part of a church before, but feel called to join our congregation, we’re thrilled to have you.

After you complete a short membership application and submit it to our Senior Pastor, the application is reviewed and recommended to the Unified Board for approval.

Once approved, we celebrate your official welcome during a Sunday morning worship service with a special liturgy and the full support of the congregation. You’ll be greeted by the Unified Board and cheered on by your new church family.

You’ll even receive a welcome packet filled with swag, helpful resources, and information about:

  • The international Moravian Church
  • The Moravian Church in North America (Southern Province)
  • Our theology
  • Opportunities to get involved at KMC

Membership begins with baptism, unless you’ve attended Moravian churches before and have already been baptized. We believe in celebrating every new member with open arms, joyful greetings, and plenty of invitations to get involved.

Each year, we also host a New Member Reception, where you’ll have a chance to meet church staff, members of the Unified Board, and others who have recently joined. It’s a great opportunity to ask questions, explore the New Members Class, and learn more about everything Kernersville Moravian has to offer.

Our New Member Class

This series is designed to help individuals and families deepen their understanding of the Moravian faith, our unique traditions, and the life of the church—both globally and here at KMC.

Everyone is welcome, and we mean that—lifelong members often find the class just as enriching as newcomers!

The class typically meets Sunday mornings from 9:00 to 9:50 AM in the Historic Chapel, over a six-week period. It’s a warm and informal space to ask questions, meet others, and discover what it means to be part of this vibrant, historic community.

Your primary presenters are life-long Moravians and KMC members.

  • Cheryl Cottingham: Former Christian Education Director, and retired Moravian Minister
  • Bob Peterson: Retired Moravian Minister
  • Sara Peterson: Lifelong executive administrator, active Moravian member, and Moravian minister’s wife
